I have always believed that looking at the world through the eyes of the children will give us a better perspective of what’s in front of us. They are the ones who look at things, situations and people in such positive ways and are always finding excitement from what they encounter and experience. That’s why when I grow up, I want to be like them. As a teenager, I’ve always known that in able for me to enjoy my adulthood is to find a career involving children. I am very happy that I have been doing this for more than 2 decades now and counting. Though I have been more involved in the management side for the most part of my career, I’m still lucky to be able to be part of the children’s lives whenever I get to visit the classrooms andthrough my daily conversations and interactions with them. I still get to bond with them and I still get to develop a positive relationship with them and their families. The relationships I have formed with the children encourages me to be a better educatorevery day, a person who understands what they need to support their development cognitively, physically, socially, emotionally and mentally.

I am generally a happy person but people who knows me well knows that shopping and travelling makes me happier.
“I used to be a High School teacher back in the Philippines. I know in my heart that I like to teach. When I migrated to Canada I chose to work with the younger children as I became interested with this age group and I wanted to play a part in their growth and development. I have been enjoying working with the preschool age for the past 8 years and I see myself doing this for another 8 years and more. My favorite thing to do is to sing and dance especially with my family. Aside from these, I enjoy gardening, hiking and eating with my loved ones. Noodles is my most favorite food and the colors green and blue are my favorite colors."

With over 12 years’ experience of teaching in Elementary
School in India, I migrated to Canada with my family. I have done Bachelor of Education and Master’s in Mathematics from back home. Being passionate towards teaching and my love towards children made me choose my career in Early Childhood Education. I have been into this field for more than 4 years now. I upgraded myself by obtaining an Early learning and Childcare Diploma from Bow Valley college. I love working with children and watching them learn and grow every day. There are a lot of milestones that happen in our classroom, which I love to see. I always look forward to sharing my knowledge and helping each child based on their individual interests, needs and abilities. I believe that building healthy relationships with children is vital to educate and provide care for them. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new places, spending time with my family and watching movies.

I originated from Nigeria located in West Africa. Equipped with a Bachelor of Education, Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE), Alberta Interim Certificate, and Child Development Supervisor Certificate, I poses 15 years of childcare experience. Approximately 6 years were spent with ACE, one year as a special needs kindergarten teacher, and 8 years with various daycares in both Montreal and Calgary. With two wonderful children of my own, being a mom is the most beautiful thing to me. I cherish every moment with them, from cooking and bike rides to walks. I firmly believe that each child is a unique individual with untapped potential, and as an educator, I play a significant role in assisting them to achieve those prospects. The main things that keep me motivated every day are the stories, words, drawings, and love I receive from these little ones. Recently, a child told me during lunch, 'Jewel, you are my hero,' and it brought tears to my eyes because that's the driving force behind what I do. As both a teacher and a mom, I advocate for celebrating every child.
